Named Karukera or "Island of beautiful waters" by the Caraïbe Indians due to its numerous rivers and waterfalls, the island was discovered in 1493 by Christopher Columbus who gave it the name of Guadeloupe in homage to Santa Maria de Guadalupe, in Estramadura, Spain. Since 1946 the island is a French Overseas Department with more than 400 000 inhabitants. Guadeloupe is also an archipelago composed of five other islands : Les Saintes, Marie-Galante, La Désirade and Petite Terre, Saint Martin and Saint Barthélémy. Guadeloupe and Martinique the two islands in the Lesser Antilles are called the French West Indies (FWI).

Sainte-Anne is a small seaside resort of some 20,000 inhabitants on the southern coast of Guadeloupe (Grande-Terre). Sainte-Anne has always been known for its magnificent beaches; but in addition to the dazzling beauty of its coastal areas, there lies a fascinating and rich inland heritage awaiting your discovery: the cottage industries craftsmen, the former windmills of by-gone times, the quaint country atmosphere, the fabulous vegetation in the "Grands-Fonds" area, the land based activities, and much more....

The Institute
Our French language school was created in 1994. Its goal is to offer French language courses and immersion programmes in Guadeloupe, the Caribbean overseas Department of France, in the French West Indies. It provides a unique opportunity to combine studies and intensive learning of the French language with vacations and an encounter with the French Creole culture.

As a training Centre in France, MLC has the accreditation for Bildungsurlaub (Hamburg) and U.S student credits. In our small school with a friendly atmosphere we welcome today between 15 and 30 students every week. The school is centrally located in one of the main streets of Sainte-Anne. Bank, post-office, bus stop, cafés and shops are just downstairs.
