The Institute
Casa de Lenguas opened in 2001 in a beautiful remodeled colonial home located just a few blocks from the Central Park of Antigua, with a group of hand-picked and experienced teachers with a real passion for sharing not only the Spanish language, but also their rich culture, ways of thinking and traditions with foreign students.

Casa de Lenguas is recognized as one of best schools in Guatemala for its superior quality Spanish Programs, through which many past students have immersed themselves in the Spanish language and Guatemalan culture in an efficient, safe, comfortable and fun way. We offer you the experience of a life-time, no matter if you come to learn Spanish for work or studies, to fulfill a special dream of yours, to get ready for traveling through Latin America or just to go somewhere different to experience a fascinating culture and meet new people. Students come to study for anything from a week up to a whole semester. They are from all over the world: the United States, Europe and Asia, and while the average age is around 30 there is a wonderful mix of people from 18 years old up to 65.

The Programmes
GROUP classes are comprised of a maximum of 4 students per teacher.
PRIVATE classes are taught one-on-one (one student per teacher). The advantages with group classes are the special group dynamics: group discussions and exercises, learning by listening to the questions of the other students, being able to talk about the classes and compare what you have understood. Private classes, of course, allow you to focus exclusively on your particular needs and interests, and you advance exactly at your own pace.
OUR SPECIALTY PROGRAMS - We offer you a wide variety of programs at Casa de Lenguas, all with very high standards and including the study materials. Apart from the Regular Spanish Programs, we have MEDICINA, ACTIVA, Spanish & Salsa and Spanish & Horseback Riding. Do not hesitate to contact us if you need advice on which program would suit you best or how many hours per day would be appropriate for you. You can start classes in any program any Monday, all through out the year.

Teachers
Our teachers are a great mix of men and women of different ages, backgrounds and with all kinds of interests who will introduce you to their country and make your experience of learning Spanish an unforgettable one.

Methodology
The Spanish Programs at Casa de Lenguas follow the certified methodology of the Cervantes Institute, Madrid. All our teachers have received extensive and continuous training on this method.

Accommodation
Living as a guest in a Guatemalan home gives you a unique opportunity to completely immerse yourself in the Spanish language AND culture. You share all your meals with the family and practicing speaking with the family members makes a huge difference in how fast you are able to learn Spanish – you are practically living the language, allowing you to get a deeper comprehension of the usage of it. Casa de Lenguas works with excellent families in Antigua, making sure that you get the best attention and care possible in a genuine Guatemalan environment. Our families have plenty of experience in receiving foreign students and know very well how to look after you.

Excursions
At Casa de Lenguas we have a travel agency integrated with our on-site services. The travel agency is actually much older than the school - it was opened in 1993, by AmeriSpan USA as a resource center for tourists in Antigua. The school Casa de Lenguas was born as an initiative to guarantee high quality Spanish Programs to interested students. Today the school and the travel agency form one Guatemalan company, still maintaining the high standards, and offering all the advice and expertise that has been accumulated over the years.

Places of Interest
Lake Atitlán - The incredibly crystal clear Lake Atitlán has been called the most beautiful lake in the world. It is also one of the centers of trade for different Mayan groups, trading to each other as well as to tourists and whole-sellers, dealing in particularly elaborate handicrafts and textiles. During the internal conflict the areas around the lake were very affected by the war between the military and the guerillas. Today we can visit the monuments, for example the altar made in honor of Father Stanley Rother, who was shot to death in 1981 for standing up for his poor parishoners.
Tikal -
once the ceremonial center of the Ancient Maya people, the ruins of Tikal were rediscovered in 1955. They comprise the largest collection of Mayan ruins ever excavated. Now a National Park covering 358 square miles of primes rainforest, Tikal is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, including spider and howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars, and almost 250 bird species. In 1979, UNESCO declared Tikal a World Heritage Site because of its exceptional natural and cultural value. You cannot visit Guatemala without seeing Tikal!

Volunteer Programme
Volunteering is a great example of how YOU can contribute to the social development of Guatemala. Being a volunteer, you can contribute to the local organization and at the same time you can receive a unique understanding – about yourself as well about the structure and workings of an organization in a developing country. In many cases you get to practice and learn new tasks, a new language, a whole new culture, and with all this experience it is no wonder that your future employees will be interested to see this on your resumé (curriculum vitae).
