Both of us are trained and experienced EFL teachers who have travelled extensively and know the challenges of living in a foreign environment. Therefore, we are very sympathetic to the needs of our students and give them the skills and confidence to begin to move independently within their new environment. We are enthusiastic and creative teachers who can personalize our teaching to the students interests and learning style. We have a keen interest in learning about other countries ourselves so would welcome newcomers into our home and make them a part of our daily life.

We live in the suburb of Charleswood in the south western part of Winnipeg, a city of 600,000 people. This is an upper middle class neighbourhood with friendly neighbours and a low crime rate. We built our house in 1985. It is a modern 200m², two storey detached dwelling located on a large treed lot. The main floor of our home has a formal living room with wood burning fireplace which is ideal for curling up and reading on a cold winter's day. Adjacent to the living room is a formal dining room. The kitchen is in the center of the home and open to the family room where we entertain and watch television. All rooms are furnished with comfortable furniture and have good lighting for reading. Our double car garage is attached to the house so we do not have to endure the cold when getting into the car. We also have a bathroom on the main floor of our home. The second floor consists of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a laundry and sewing room. The guest room has a queen sized bed, dresser, large closet, night table, reading lamp, and desk. It faces south and the large window allows plenty of sunshine to enter in the daytime. The bathroom has a tub with shower, toilet, and sink with a large vanity. The laundry room is equipped with a washer, dryer, iron, and ironing board. We can also provide internet service for our guests. Our home has a gas furnace which provides even heat throughout the house. We also have central air conditioning to cool the house in the hot summer days.

We have a security system as well as fire and carbon monoxide detectors. In the summer we have a small vegetable garden, numerous flower beds overlooking a large deck with barbeque and comfortable lounging chairs. The numerous trees, including apple and plum, provide homes to the many varieties of birds that come to feed at our birdfeeders. Year round you can observe chipmunks, squirrels, and occasional rabbits in our backyard. Our home is on a quiet cul de sac near a bus stop allowing easy bus access to downtown. There is a major indoor shopping mall within 15 minutes of our house. The travelling time from our house to downtown area is approximately 20 minutes. From our home you are able to walk to a library, banks, convenience stores, barber shops, restaurants, movie rental shops, and various other facilities. We have lived in Charleswood for over thirty years and think it is one of the best areas to live in Winnipeg. It is free from pollution, is safe, and close to many conveniences. We feel any visitor would feel very much at home in our community.
