Excursions and Local Attractions
There are many, many fabulous places of interest in San Diego. We have a world class zoo, wild animal park and Sea World. We have fabulous beaches, La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, Del Mar, Ocean Beach, Point Loma, and Coronado. We have a wonderful park in the middle of San Diego that was the host of 2 World's Fairs. Balboa Park is the home of several museums, art, natural history, local history, photography, and more. San Diego was the home of the first mission in California instituted by the Franciscan monks of the 1700’s. There is a basilica and beautiful grounds in which to walk with artifacts of that era. San Diego is a vibrant, dynamic place downtown. For nightlife it has the Gaslamp district which has many outstanding restaurants, nightclubs and Petco Park, the home of the San Diego Padres baseball team. This is an overview of the possible sights I can expose my students to.
Accommodation, Facilities and Local Area
I am a middle age woman that has had several life experiences including, travel, teaching, raising a family. I have had several homestay students in the past and enjoyed showing them San Diego and helping them learn English. I am currently on a sabbatical leave of absence from my elementary teaching job and I have a lot of time to tutor students not only book and pen but also through experiences in everyday situations such as at cafes, the beach, shopping, etc.
This is in a quiet, residential area. It is a serene, safe, quiet place. It is centrally located. It has lovely walking trails but it is not in the "hub of things". Shopping and beaches, museums, etc. is about 12 - 15 minutes by car. The mass transportation system in San Diego is not like in Europe or other large cities in the USA. San Diego is very spread out and most people own at least one car, even teenagers. The bus stop is ¾ of a mile from my house. I will take my students on excursions regularly but if a student wants to go places on their own, renting a car would be the best option or rely on public transportation.
