Hobbies and Interests
We enjoy swimming, visiting the gym, reading, visiting the pub, meditation, Reikki and visiting local historical and prehistoric sites (e.g. Stonehenge, see below). We also enjoy visiting my parents home near Oxford, where they have a private swimming pool. We often do weekend excursions to Oxford and their house.

Birmingham City - a summary
A warm and friendly welcome awaits you in Birmingham, the second largest city in the United Kingdom. A vibrant, multicultural city, Birmingham is home of the Balti, an Indian curry dish which you can try when you visit. With a variety people from different cultures living in Birmingham, the city is an ideal place to study English and converse with people from a wide range of backgrounds. The city possesses an excellent bus and train network, making it easy to get around and explore without a car.
Accommodation and Facilities
A friendly welcome awaits you at our house just 15 minutes away from the City Centre, the Airport, or the Warwickshire countryside. This means your stay here can combine both the advantages of a big city and getting out into the country.
My wife, Melanie, and myself live together in a brand new three story townhouse, which is in excellent condition. Student facilities include your own private double bedroom, your own private bathroom with shower, and a quiet room in which you can read or study. To help you study we also provide your own private laptop computer, with wireless broadband internet access. We also have a digital video recorder which can be used for lessons, or just to make sure you never miss your favourite TV programme!
The Local Area
Acocks Green shopping area is 10 minutes walk away. Here you will find a variety of shops, including Sainburys, Aldi and Iceland supermarkets, chemists, banks, and a whole variety of restaurants and take-aways. There is also a bowling alley and Laserquest activities centre located here. Acocks Green railway station is only 10 minutes walk away. From there it is a short 5-10 minute train ride into Birmingham city centre.
Transport
Birmingham is located close to the centre of England, about 100 miles to the North-West of London in an area known as the Midlands. London is a 90 minute transfer by train. Birmingham has excellent transport links with Birmingham International Airport (see www.bhx.co.uk) and Birmingham International Station only 15 minutes drive away from our house. There are several major railway stations near the town centre, including Birmingham New Street. We can provide a friendly face to pick you up from either the airport or the railway stations. Located close to the geographical centre of England, Birmingham is an excellent base from which to explore further.
Surrounding Birmingham
A short 15 minute drive, bus ride or train ride away puts you in the Warwickshire Countryside. Here, you can find a variety of pubs, canals, and locks connected by a series of nature walks. Traveling further brings you to the historic town of Warwick, only 30 minutes by train from our house. This includes the famous Warwick Castle and a weekly local market. Only 45 minutes away is the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, home to Shakespeare and the Royal Shakespeare Company. A good half day excursion is to either visit Warwick Castle or Stratford-upon-Avon, followed by seeing a play by Shakespeare in the evening. Patrick Stewart of Star Trek fame is currently performing in 'The Tempest' at Stratford in the evening. We look forward to welcoming you in the near future.
