Excursions and Local Attractions
Bristol City Centre has many attractions: The harbour area is very pleasant with restaurants, gift shops and the Arnolfini Arts centre. Bristol has an interactive science exhibition and the City Museum has a fine collection of paintings, a natural history collection, and ceramics etc. There is an excellent shopping mall at Cribbs Causeway with Marks and Spencer, John Lewis etc. A short car journey away is a recently built, local leisure centre with swimming pool, gym and squash etc. 5 mins walk away is St George's Park. The historic city of Bath is just a 10 minute train journey, and the Welsh countryside and North Somerset coast make pleasant outings. A visit to the ancient monument of Stonehenge is a day trip several students have enjoyed.
Accommodation, Facilities and Local Area
A Victorian house with a pleasant, private back garden. The house is a 4 minute walk from the local park. Nearby are local shops, including a small Tesco store. I live within walking distance (35 minutes)of Bristol city centre which has many shops, restaurants and tourist attractions such as the harbourside. By car or bus the city centre is only 15 minutes away. Also nearby is a new local leisure centre which has gym and swimming facilities. Bristol Templemeads main line station is a 10 minute car drive.
The student's room is a large, light. airy room with desk and chair, TV/DVD, armchair and bookcase. There is lots of storage space.

Travel
Bristol is located in the South West of England, 110 miles west of London, near the Bristol Channel. The journey from London to Bristol takes approximately 90 minutes by train or 2 hours by bus. There is a direct bus service from London Heathrow and Gatwick airport and also many direct flights from around Europe into Bristol International airport.
Description of Bristol
Bristol is the ideal place for people to learn English. It is a lively and exciting city that offers a true taste of England to the visitor. Bristol is a medium sized city with a population of 500,000. The city is not overcrowded with tourists at any time of the year, 50 it is a good place to get to know England and the English. At the same time it is a beautiful city with excellent modem facilities and elegant historic places. The city is based around its historic harbour area, now completely modernised and offering new entertainment venues. Bristol has two universities and two cathedrals. The Clifton district is well known for its Georgian houses and for the world famous Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Entertainment and Sports
The centre of Bristol offers aIl you could want in tenns of bars, clubs, restaurants, shops and cafes, with chic modem venues alongside the more traditional English ones. The city has football and rugby teams, and facilities for most types of sport. In summer there are many open air events such as the Harbour Festival, the Hot Air Balloon Festival, the Ashton Court Music Festival and many more. There is a city centre cinema and several large cinema complexes in the suburbs with nearby modem shopping centres.
Surrounding Areas
Bristol lies in some of the most beautiful countryside in England. It is very close to the Cotswold Hills, and the area of North Somerset, both with 5Orne of the prettiest English villages you can find anywhere. Not far away is the Bristol Channel (the broad estuary of the river Severn and the beautiful area of South Wales. Eight miles South East of Bristol is the elegant Georgian city of Bath, which is a world famous heritage centre.
