French Hotel Internship Programme immersion courses

Cuisine_Restaurant175.jpgThe Eurolingua French Hotel Programme enables students attending recognised institutions in their own country to come to France, boost their French language skills to a level acceptable by Hotel Directors, and then participate in a French hotel work experience/internship in accordance with French law and regulations.

The Eurolingua French Hotel Programme is offered to European (EU) Students and to Non-European (EU) Students, as described below.
Please note that, under French regulations, in order to qualify for an Hotel Internship (stage en hôtellerie), all candidates must be connected in some way with the hospitality sector, and must, of course, be able to speak reasonable French.

There are two main obstacles to overcome:

  1. French Administration and Employment Law
EU Citizens have the advantage of not requiring a STUDENT VISA (the usual combined entry visa and authorisation to be employed in France). However, there are still certain restrictions applicable to students applying for the ‘stage en hôtellerie’. The prospective ‘stagiaire’ must be able to demonstrate that they are a registered student in their own country and need to do a ‘stage en hôtellerie’ in order to validate their studies, for example attending a Hotel Management School, Catering School, undertaking hospitality or tourism studies etc. A letter from the candidate’s home school, college or university will usually suffice in this respect.

  2. Hotel commercial requirements and competition from other European students
Hotel Directors are usually bombarded with requests from job seekers and there are a great many well-qualified, French-speaking candidates in Europe. You should prepare a well-presented CV/résumé in French, with a recent portrait style colour photo.
If you provide us with this information, and complete the online French Hotel programme Application Form, Eurolingua will be able to organise the rest for you. We have a wide network of partner hotels in the South of France and we will bring your French language skills up to the required level, adapted to working in an hotel, at our well-known and respected French language school in Montpellier. According to your current spoken level in French, which will be determined during a short telephone interview, you will need to take a 1-week, 2-week or 4-week French preparation course, as follows:   1-week French course (B2 minimum level) + 2 to 3 month hotel placement
Students who demonstrate that they are already at the B2 level on the European scale will only be required to take a one week French course at the school in Montpellier before being assigned to their hotel placement.
  • 1-week French course, 15 hours per week Monday to Friday
  • Accommodation arrangement service
  • 1-week host family accommodation with half-board (room, breakfast and evening dinner)
  • 2 to 3 month hotel internship in the South of France, including staff accommodation and meals
  • Hotel trainees ('stagiaires') receive 200 Euro per month stipend
  • Hotel trainees receive a Eurolingua Diploma and/or a Letter of Recommendation from the hotel
  • Continuous student welfare and counselling support
  • Programme fee: 1034 Euro (see detailed price list)
2-week French course (B1+ minimum level) + 2 to 3 month hotel placement
Students who demonstrate that they are already at least at the B1 level on the European scale will only be required take a two week French course at the school in Montpellier before being assigned to their hotel placement.
  • 2-week French course, 15 hours per week Monday to Friday
  • Accommodation arrangement service
  • 2-week host family accommodation with half-board (room, breakfast and evening dinner)
  • Programme fee: 1473 Euro (see detailed price list)

4-week course (A1 minimum level) + 2 to 3 month hotel placement
Students who demonstrate that they are at the A1 level on the European scale will be required take a four week French course at the school in Montpellier before being assigned to their hotel placement

  • 4-week French course, 15 hours per week Monday to Friday
  • Accommodation arrangement service
  • 4-week host family accommodation with half-board (room, breakfast and evening dinner)
  • Programme fee: 2351 Euro (see detailed price list)

For European Students (Citizens of EU Member States) wanting a 4 to 6 month ‘stage en hôtellerie’, please refer to the detailed price list.

The Eurolingua French Hotel Programme is ideal for Hotel Management Students, and others interested in hospitality and tourism, wishing to spend up to 6 months in the South of France to improve their French language skills within the hotel industry. This is an ideal study abroad programme for students wishing to validate their studies at their home university or institution.

As hotel trainees receive a monthly stipend and most accommodation and meal costs are already covered, the actual net cost to the trainee is very modest for the opportunity and professional experience gained.

FR-Cooks-100.JPGNon-European Students (not Citizens of EU Member States)

Students from non-EU Member States face additional challenges when seeking to study and work in France. They must overcome the two main obstacles mentioned above as well as having to conform to the French immigration procedures administered by the French Embassy in the student’s home country. In other words, in order to work legally in France, the student must obtain a STUDENT VISA. This should not be confused with a regular TOURIST VISA which only allows the holder to enter France but does not enable the holder to work in France. This means that there is a much longer and more costly procedure to follow.

However, Eurolingua can guide you through the application process step by step. The French Embassy will favourably consider your application for a Student Visa for the 4 to 6 month Eurolingua French Hotel Programme (‘stage en hôtellerie). You must demonstrate that you are a registered student in your own country and that you need to do a ‘stage en hôtellerie’ in France in order to validate your studies, for example, at your Hotel Management School, Catering School, School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies etc. A letter from your home school, college or university will usually suffice in this respect. You must also demonstrate that you have adequate finances to cover advance payment of your programme and accommodation fees, have acceptable medical cover for your stay in France and that, of course, you speak reasonable French.

Generally, you will be called for a personal interview at your nearest French Embassy and must take with you all the necessary documentary evidence to support your application for a Student Visa.  Do not worry, we can help you with most of this and guide you through what you have to do to be successful.

According to your current spoken level in French, which will be determined during a short telephone interview, you will need to take a 2-week or 4-week French preparation course, as follows:

2-week French course (B1+ minimum level) + 4 to 6 month hotel placement
Students who demonstrate that they are already at least at the B1 level on the European scale will only be required take a two week French course at the school in Montpellier before being assigned to their hotel placement.

  • 2-week French course, 15 hours per week Monday to Friday
  • Accommodation arrangement service
  • 2-week host family accommodation with half-board (room, breakfast and evening dinner)
  • 4 to 6 month hotel internship in the South of France, including staff accommodation and meals
  • Hotel trainees ('stagiaires') receive 200 Euro per month stipend
  • Hotel trainees receive a Eurolingua Diploma and/or a Letter of Recommendation from the hotel
  • Continuous student welfare and counselling support
  • Programme fee: 2368 Euro (see detailed price list)

  • 4-week host family accommodation with half-board (room, breakfast and evening dinner)
