Teaching Qualifications and Experience
Hobbies and Interests
A student would have the opportunity to experience family life in Liverpool. We have a 4 year old daughter and so there is a lot going on in the house as far as opportunities for conversation. We would provide information available for students about the area and events that they may be interested in. We are both well travelled, enjoy meeting people from other parts of the world and enjoy hosting international students and finding out about them too. We are sympathetic to a student's needs as we have both had the experience of living abroad. As an Au Pair in France and Belgium, I was living within a family situation and John has lived in America working on a children’s summer camp. Anyone visiting Liverpool will have a great time. Whether you like music, theatre, sport, architecture, museums, transport. Whatever your interest there is something for you! Liverpool will be the European Capital of Culture in 2008, so there are also plenty of festivals taking place throughout the year. We have 5 museums, including the Maritime and Beatles museums. There are two cathedrals on the same street, many art galleries to visit, Chinatown, the Pier Head (a World Heritage Site) and you can make the famous ‘ferry across the Mersey’ or you can just walk around the City Centre and look at some of the best Victorian architecture in the UK. If you like sport you could go and watch Liverpool or Everton play or play golf on one of the two British Open courses on Merseyside or visit Aintree (The Grand National) if you like racing. Near Liverpool there is the Roman walled town of Chester, excellent shopping in Manchester and walking in Wales. In the evening there is also plenty to do. We have 4 theatres, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, many live music venues with up and coming bands, local and arthouse cinemas and Liverpool has a thriving nightlife. There is enough culture to keep you going for at least a month! The house is situated in a quiet, historical street of Liverpool yet it is only two minutes away from a lively area of Liverpool. Lark Lane has plenty of restaurants of its own, including Tapas, Italian, Indian, Greek, Chinese, Mexican and a few wine bars as well as many local shops. A few minutes walk away is Sefton Park, the largest park in Liverpool with a Victorian Palm House, if you like jogging, join the rest of Liverpool for the 3 mile run around it. The City Centre is only 15 minutes away by bus or train. The house itself was built in 1840, it has a lot of character. Your room is a large room with bed/ study and living areas at the top of the house. You would also have a private shower room. We have two living rooms and a large kitchen. Outside we have a small garden. The neighbourhood is very friendly. You could also have access to the internet. We are very family orientated, with one child, and you would have the opportunity to join us for family meals and practice your English in a more relaxed atmosphere. We are very health conscious when it comes to food, we use organic produce and our diet is almost vegetarian. We are both passionate about Liverpool, it’s culture, history and community, enjoy a bit of sport and like reading, cinema and music. We are both well travelled and have lived ourselves in other countries so have an idea of your needs. We are very open and enjoy finding out about other countries and cultures. We will certainly be interested in you and you would be welcome to join in our family life as much or as little as you wanted. We are both experienced teachers having taught students from a variety of cultures and countries with a whole range of different needs and strengths. We have a very fresh and relaxed approach to teaching, using the latest techniques to ensure that you will learn English more effectively. As we are a teaching team of two we have a variety of different strengths to offer you, Sam is stronger in Business English whereas as John would be able to deliver more Academic and Technical English. Once we had established your needs we can tailor your course to your needs with variety of teaching and content. We can take you out on cultural and more practical outings so that you can practice your English with us and with the wider world. If you can understand a scouser (person from Liverpool) you should be able to understand anyone speaking English. |
