B.A. Hons French Language and Literature 1974 Subsidiary English Literature and Language 1972 Certificate of Qualification in Social Work 1978 Post Qualifying Cert. in Advanced Child Care 1986 T.E.F.L. Intense Introductory Course - 2004-05-02. I have taught English to foreign students, both adolescent and adult, on a home-stay basis since 2004. During this time I have given language tuition to young people, a naval officer, a foreign English language teacher, a legal secretary, a receptionist, a conference speaker and retired persons. Prior to that I had regularly hosted international students since 1994. These have included students from many different European countries and also from Thailand and Japan.
Hobbies and Interests
Music, reading, computing, gardening, outdoors, writing. My son studies music and plays drums.
Excursions and Local Attractions
Selection of Osborne House (former holiday residence of Queen Victoria), Carisbrooke Castle, Roman Villa, zoo, bird park, seaside towns of Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin, picturesque old world charm of Shanklin Old Village and Godshill with its model village, Cowes where the international sailing festival is held in August.
Accommodation, Facilities and Local Area
We live in a recently built three-bedroomed detached bungalow with parking and private enclosed rear garden. There is disabled access. The guest room is comfortably furnished and the adjacent bathroom is shared with one family member. Our bungalow is situated in the village of Wootton Bridge on the beautiful and very popular Isle of Wight which has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are near the bus-stop from which very frequent buses go to the main towns. There are shops, post office, pubs and other amenities nearby. There are also pleasant walks by picturesque Wootton Creek and lake. Wootton Bridge is halfway between the capital town Newport and the popular seaside town of Ryde. There are many places of historic interest such as Osborne House, the former holiday residence of Queen Victoria, and Carisbrooke Castle nearby. There are also many tourist attractions, beauty spots, leisure facilities and beaches. The Isle of Wight is an excellent place for those who like walking and there is an extensive cycle network. Horse-riding, water-sports, golf and other activities are available.
Transport: from Ryde, Cowes or Yarmouth ferry terminals. Nearest airports are Southampton, Bournemouth, Gatwick, Heathrow. There are rail and coach connections from them to connect with frequent fast ferries in Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington.
