The language school offers a unique combination of high standards of tuition within a dynamic and fun environment. Our team of highly qualified teachers will not only ensure that our students' academic needs are met, but will also guarantee an unforgettable experience and a taste of Irish life and culture.

We offer General English and Examination Courses. General English Courses are for the student who is wishing to improve his/her English for work, study and leisure.

A group of qualified teachers are employed with many years teaching experience between them. The teachers are motivated with a sense of practical learning.

Classes take place five days per week, Monday to Friday. Evening classes are also available. Classes cover the four skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing. All levels are offered from beginners to advanced.

Students are tested on arrival and placed in a class suitable to their level. Students can move up through the levels as their standard improves.

Examination classes are held for those students wishing to sit English exams. These exams are recognised throughout the world and are essential for entrance to an English speaking university.

They are also very useful when seeking a job or for improving job prospects. The length of time needed to attain a sufficient standard to sit the exam with confidence varies according to the student's ability, but a minimum of a month is recommended. Programmes

The standard general English course covers all aspects of the language: grammar, usage, reading, writing, listening and speaking. Great importance is placed on oral communication and materials are both relevant and stimulating. Students are tested regularly to make sure they are in the correct class for their level.

The intensive General English Course is designed for students wishing to make optimum use of their time studying English in Dublin. The course covers all aspects of the English language and aims to develop the student's communicative ability in the shortest time possible. It is the fastest way to achieve fluency in English.

Our business courses are intensive one/two week courses which focus on improving your business and general English as quickly as possible.

We are FETAC registered. The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) is the statutory awarding body for further education and training in Ireland. FETAC makes quality assured awards that are part of the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) from levels 1-6.


Cambridge & TIE Exam Preparation
Kavanagh College offers preparation classes for Cambridge ESOL examinations and TIE exams. Details of these exams are set-out below.

Cambridge English Tests

Preliminary English Test (PET)
PET is an exam for people who can use everyday written and spoken English at an intermediate level. It covers all four language skills — reading, writing, listening and speaking. Preparing for the exam is a popular way to develop and improve your language skills because it provides practical language practice in a variety of everyday work, study and leisure situations.
As part of the Cambridge suite of exams, this exam is recognised internationally around the world.


First Certificate in English (FCE)
Cambridge English: First, commonly known as First Certificate in English (FCE) is an exam for people who need to prove they can use everyday written and spoken English at an upper-intermediate level for work or study purposes.
Pitched at an upper intermediate level, this exam tests the four skills in a manner perfect for the student who wishes to use English in a working or a study situation. As part of the Cambridge suite of exams, this exam is recognised internationally around the world.

Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
Cambridge English: Advanced also known as Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) is the leading English exam for professional and academic success.
For higher level students , the CAE provides an internationally recognised exam which is valid for life. Students completing the CAE would be expected to be able to understand complex opinions and express themselves well with a good degree of fluency.
Although these exams test the four basic skills, there is still an emphasis on conversation in the classes.


Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
Cambridge English: Proficiency, commonly known as Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) is our most advanced exam, and is for learners who have achieved an extremely high level of skill in the English language.
The Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English is an advanced exam. This course is for learners who have already achieved a high level of English but who want to express even more meaning in complex language. The paper involves reading, writing, use of English, listening and speaking and once achieved is widely considered the pinnacle of English language learning.
The Business English Certificates
The Business English Certificates (BEC) are internationally recognised qualifications that show employers your skills for using English in the workplace.
BEC is an ideal English language exam if you are preparing for a career in business. There are three different levels of BEC: BEC Preliminary, BEC Vantage and BEC Higher.
As well as our regular Business courses we also prepare for the BEC exams. These are a suite of Cambridge business exams which are designed to test English language ability used in the context of business.

Cambridge Exam Preparation
Kavanagh College offers preparation classes for Cambridge ESOL examinations. Students must achieve a minimum score in a placement test to attend the course. The Cambridge exams are run 4 times a year in March, June, August and December.

Test of Interactive English (TIE)
The Test of Interactive English (TIE) examination is an English test designed by ACELS. It is recognized across Ireland and Europe
The Test of Interactive English is fully recognised by the Irish Department of Education and Science and follows the Council of Europe’s Common Framework of Language Proficiency. The TIE exam is composed of a speaking and a writing test and can be taken by students of any level.
The test is task-based, requiring each candidate to carry out a number of pre-specified tasks prior to taking the test. The test is held at a number of times during the year.
Kavanagh College offers preparation classes for the TIE examinations.

We offer General English courses for all levels - elementary, intermediate and advanced. The English course enables you to combine English classes with structured study sessions, leaving you time to practice your English during social activities with your new friends!

Social Activities
Dublin is one of the most lively and friendly cities in Europe. Irish people are known around the world for the way they welcome everyone and for their warmth and hospitality. Irish people are very informal and are happy to help you in any way they can.

There is a vibrant nightlife in Dublin and it is reputedly one of the most youthful cities in Europe - with estimates of 50% of inhabitants being younger than 25. Dublin is a city with music everywhere, friendly people and a relaxed atmosphere. Dublin people love talking !!! So for a student of English it really is the perfect place.

Social Programme
Students are welcome to enjoy Kavanagh College’s social activities. The school organises weekly cultural, social and sporting outings where students can actively practice their English with native speakers and other students.

Accommodation

Accommodation
Kavanagh College will provide all the help you need to find quality accommodation at affordable prices for however long you are staying in Dublin. Please see the different types of accommodation we offer below and let us know if you have any questions.

City Centre Residence
Want to share your accommodation with other students? Each student will share a 4 room apartment within the residence. This comprises of 4 bedrooms all containing their own bathroom, a kitchen and a lounge area where you can relax together.
•The accommodation is within walking distance to the college
* You will have your own room with bathroom and will have access to all the facilities with 3 people in the residence to cook, wash clothes etc.

City Accommodation – Self Catering Apartment
An excellent way to practice your English with native speakers is to stay in an apartment with Irish people. These apartments are carefully chosen to provide you with a friendly comfortable place to stay. You are welcome to use all the facilities and be made to feel a part of the home.

* You will be within walking distance to the college.
* You have access to all the facilities in the apartment to cook, wash clothes etc.

City Centre Budget Accommodation
This is our cheapest accommodation. The facilities are of a good hostel standard and designed to create a warm and pleasant atmosphere. You will share a room/bathroom with 4-6 other people.
* The accommodation is within walking distance to the college.
* You will have access to all the facilities in the accommodation to cook, wash clothes etc. Buffet Breakfast is included in the price.

Host Family – Family Accommodation
An excellent way to practice your English with native speakers is to stay with a host family. All the host families we use are carefully chosen to provide you with a friendly comfortable place to stay.
•You will have your own room or share with a friend. Breakfast and Dinner are provided every day
