New York Language Center's mission is twofold: to provide quality affordable English classes to international students in a supportive atmosphere where students come first, and make international students feel more at home, far from home. At the same time, we are committed to providing immigrant New Yorkers with ESL classes that meet their needs, as we have done since 1986. New York Language Center offers several programs based on the students'need:
20 hour per week intensive program for I-20 students
15 hour per week semi-intensive program for tourists
8-10 hour part time program for local students
Private lessons
Super Intensive 30 hour per week programs are also available.

Students, upon completion, are given a certificate and transcript.

New York Language Center's curriculum is constantly being revised using the latest material in the field. Textbooks are selected from the major publishers of ESL/EFL materials. There is a computer laboratory and programs include a wide variety of audio and visual materials.

The English program at New York Language Center uses a communicative approach and is divided into 10 levels. It is an intensive program that integrates the four language skills: speaking, reading, listening and writing. Classes are taught by experienced faculty who are trained to help students progress. All students are encouraged to practice their newly acquired skills both in and outside of class. Students are given an oral and written placement test and consultation to determine which levels, courses and schedules best meet their needs. In addition to the 10 integrated skills levels, the school offers an academic track where TOEFL test preparation, Business English, Advanced Writing and Listening are offered.

There is a full activity program for our students that include 2-3 teacher led activities during the warm months, and 1-2 activities at other times. NYLC students have gone kayaking on the Hudson River, party cruises around Manhattan, picnicking in Central Park, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and exploring various neighborhoods in the city.

The school has many housing providers including student dormitories, the YMCA Westside, The Vanderbilt YMCA, Sara's Amsterdam Residence, the Dehirsch Residence.and an upmarket hostel. Students can also book homestays both in Manhattan and in Brooklyn and Queens.

The school offers optional trips to Washington DC, Niagara Falls and Philadelphia. Through our partnership with One to World, NYLC students can join excursions with other language and university students in New York.
