St Helens, UK: We live in the large village of Rainford, with all the usual amenities of shops, pubs, post office, health centre, churches and library. Rainford is surrounded by open countryside, midway between the market towns of Ormskirk and St Helens and within easy reach of Liverpool and the Lancashire coast. You have a choice of a double or single bedroom, equipped with radio, TV/DVD player, tea and coffee making facilities and Wi-Fi, and a private shower room with wc and basin.

After 15 years as a Primary school teacher I became the Learning Materials Development Officer, for students with English as a Second Language, at a College Skills Centre, where I also taught ESL.
Since 1997 I have been a Homestay Teacher of General and Business English. I love teaching one to one and my husband and I both enjoy welcoming students of all abilities to our home and sharing our lifestyle with them.

Hobbies and Interests

The National Trust, the countryside, walking, exploring new places, travelling, reading, music, theatre, cinema, gardening, local and family history, cookery, needlework (me), science (my husband), entertaining family and friends.

Excursions and Local Attractions

We are conveniently situated close to many attractions and can arrange excursions to Liverpool (Beatles attractions, museums, art galleries), the Roman city of Chester, Manchester, numerous local National Trust properties and gardens, the Lancashire coast (beaches, Formby, Southport, Blackpool), the World of Glass in St Helens, Ormskirk market town with its twice weekly street market, the Lake District, North Wales and Snowdonia. We have some lovely local country walks, two golf courses nearby, and can arrange for you to take part in tennis, swimming, horse riding, sailing and other water sports. For football fans, Everton and Liverpool Premier League football clubs can be visited, and St Helens has a famous Rugby club. The Grand National horse race takes place at nearby Aintree and Haydock race course is also within easy reach. Local village attractions include fetes, amateur dramatic productions, flower shows, arts and crafts shows, farm shops, pubs and restaurants.
