Paid Internship in the UK

Take part in a UK paid internship to improve your English language skills

The paid hotel internship programme is open to students of all European Union (EU) Member States who have at least an intermediate level of spoken English and preferably some work experience in the hotel, hospitality or customer service sector. Paid internships in the UK are an ideal opportunity for European (EU) students to upgrade their English language skills not only in a classroom situation but also in an everyday working environment. Participants will earn at least the UK minimum wage, the same as other British workers doing the same job, in accordance with British law on National Minimum Wages in the United Kingdom.

How do European Union (EU) and Switzerland students join a paid internship in the UK?
Students from the EU Member States or Switzerland do not require a Visa or Work Permit to take up salaried employment in the United Kingdom. 

Terms and Conditions for a UK paid internship:

  • Students must be 18 to 30 years old when they start the programme
  • Must speak intermediate level English (at Council of Europe Grade B1)
  • Must pass a telephone (SKYPE) interview in English
  • Hotel, hospitality, customer service experience preferred
  • Total programme duration: usually 16+ weeks
  • All paid placements will be in hotels, pubs or restaurants
  • Start any Monday
  • UK minimum salary (age over 21 years £5.93/hour, 18 to 21 years £4.92/hour)
  • All students have to pass an interview to be accepted onto the course
  • Applicants must be prepared to work anywhere in the UK
  • Hotel placement fee: £350
  • Hotel placement fee + English language course (initial deposit £200 + balance before arrival)
  • Erasmus and Leonardo funding welcome

Placements can be found in the following areas but students need to be flexible and will need to pass an interview with the employer.

  • Waiter/Waitress
  • Housekeeper
  • Kitchen porter
  • Bartender
  • Commis Chef
  • Receptionist

Accommodation

Most of the hotels we work with are in the countryside or small towns. Accommodation during the placement will be provided by the hotel. There will be a charge for accommodation.
