YORK, ENGLAND: We live in a typically British 1950s semi-detached house in a residential area 30 minutes on foot from the centre. Our home is cosy, clean and quiet and has no through traffic.
The student bedroom with private shower-room looks out over gardens and is so quiet that people often sleep longer here than at home. Visitors have 24-hour access to wifi.
There are local shops near the house and a bus service to the town centre. York itself is a fascinating, historic town which never fails to satisfy.

Excursions and Local Attractions

York itself, England's second most-visited city and voted the best place to live in England, can occupy visitors for many days with its quaint streets, stunning architecture, award-winning museums and fascinating architecture. An afternoon walking round the medieval walls and climbing the cathedral tower is a pleasure not to be missed.

Students enjoy accompanied visits to the historic fishing ports of Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay, and to the charming North Yorkshire market town of Helmsley, taking in Rievaulx Abbey and Nunnington Hall in the vicinity. A highlight for many is the quintessentially English afternoon tea in the Black Swan Hotel, Helmsley.

As well as the villages of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, other nearby attractions include Harrogate, a popular spa town, Bolton Abbey and Brimham Rocks. For students staying over a weekend, London and Edinburgh are within easy reach by train (London 2 hours). The travelling need not be expensive if booked well in advance.
